Event details

Get up early and join a naturalist to learn birding basics. We’ll talk about what to look for when identifying birds, practice how to focus binoculars and compare different styles of field guides. Then we’ll head out on a hike to try out our identification skills.

If you have binoculars and a favorite field guide, bring them; otherwise, we will have a few to share. Prior to the program, you may wish to download the free Merlin Bird ID app to your phone.

Event requirements

Registration required by Friday, May 10: 815-722-4121.

Please dress for the weather as the entire program will be outdoors. The program will begin at Hawthorn Grove Shelter in the back parking lot.

The hike will be 1 mile to 2 miles over uneven, natural terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
