Surf-N-Turf Concert serves up more food, fun at Monee Reservoir

Two popular programs — Surf-N-Turf Concert and Fun & Food Trucks — are teaming up this summer to offer lobster, live music and lakeside fun.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Monee Reservoir in Monee Township. The free, all-ages event will feature food trucks, free kayak rentals, adult beverages, lawn games, giveaways and live music.

“Surf-N-Turf is popular because there really is something for everyone,” said Alyssa Parker, program manager at Plum Creek Nature Center. “We have food trucks, a drink truck and Crumbl cookies for those who are there for food. We also have bubbles and lawn games for those who want to have fun outside, and a band to play the sweet music that you can listen to on land or by kayak. What more could you want?”

Tacos Giselle will serve turf-inspired bites, while Cousins Maine Lobster will offer seafood fare. Tapville Social also will be on-site with adult beverages.

At 6 p.m., The StingRays will perform hits from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Visitors can enjoy the concert from land by bringing a lawn chair or from the water by using a Forest Preserve kayak or canoe. Visitors also may bring their own canoes or kayaks.

“We offer free kayak rentals so people can get a feel for what it is like on the water,” Parker said.

Lawn games and bubbles will be available for kids, and giveaways will be offered throughout the evening.

“The highlight of the event for me is seeing so many people from the community coming together and enjoying being outdoors,” Parker said. “It truly is a wonderful example of community on the east side of the county, and I look forward to it every year. So, bring a chair and cooler and come hang out!”

Beer and wine may be brought to the event.

The 2026 Fun & Food Trucks series is sponsored by Old National Bank.

"We are grateful that we have sponsorship from Old National Bank to offer more giveaways to our visitors," Parker said.

Some visitors to Monee Reservoir may need to take a detour because Pauling Road is closed at Interstate 57 for roadway repairs. Detour details are available on the Forest Preserve’s Closure and Construction alert webpage.
