Lockport Prairie closed due to flooding

Lockport Prairie Nature Preserve is closed on Sunday, Sept. 20 due to flooding at the preserve.

Flooding occurs at the preserve when the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago opens upstream flood gates to relieve pressure on the Lockport Powerhouse dam located in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Flood waters then enter the Des Plaines River. Lockport Prairie is a low-lying preserve located adjacent to the river.
