After months of preparations, the Forest Preserve District launched a new website on Tuesday, June 9, that will make it easier for visitors to find ways to enjoy nature.

“This website is a significant improvement, and we’re excited to better leverage our digital content for the millions of nature lovers both inside and outside Will County who rely on our website as a valuable resource,” said Chad Merda, the Forest Preserve’s head of digital marketing engagement/strategy.

The website has been completely overhauled with a new look and organization designed to help people find information with fewer clicks.

“We’ve leaned into site analytics and user behavior to better tailor the experience to visitors,” Merda said. “The website required technological updates on the back end, and we were able to pair those changes with a redesign of the site’s structure and appearance to create a more effective experience overall.”

A redesigned menu streamlines navigation throughout the site, while a new homepage does a better job of showcasing the wide variety of programs, events, preserves, news and activities offered by the Forest Preserve.

The new website also makes greater use of visual storytelling. Videos are featured more prominently, building on the District’s existing library of content, and expanded photo galleries provide visitors with more opportunities to explore preserves, programs and special events through images.

Programs and events are easier to find as well thanks to a revamped event calendar. Important details such as location, age range, registration requirements and fees are displayed more prominently, allowing users to quickly browse offerings and find programs that match their interests.

The website also better connects visitors with related content. Stories, events and other resources are linked throughout the site to help users discover additional information and stay engaged with the District’s offerings.

Behind the scenes, the new website has been optimized for faster performance and an improved mobile experience, making it easier to access information whether visitors are browsing from a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone.
