Sugar Creek headquarters closed, bait shops open for Memorial Day holiday

An exterior view of Sugar Creek Administration Center

The Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet will be closed Memorial Day, but preserves, trails, dog parks and bait shops will be open.

All other visitor centers normally are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but they are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

The Forest Preserve's two bait shops will be open on Memorial Day, so anglers who want to take advantage of the holiday can spend their day fishing.

  • The Monee Reservoir Visitor Center at Monee Reservoir preserve, which sells bait and food and rents boats and equipment, will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The Hidden Lakes Trout Farm Tackle Box bait shop at Hidden Oaks Preserve in Bolingbrook, which sells bait, tackle and food, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

State fishing licenses can be purchased at both sites. And both concessions buildings have free fishing poles to check out courtesy of an Illinois Department of Natural Resources program.
