Take a vacation day for this full day of fun. Put your kayak skills to the test and embark on a two-hour paddle down the Des Plaines River to enjoy the spectacular views of the woods and glimpses of wildlife. Break for a picnic lunch at McKinley Wood — Fredrick's Grove then reverse your view with a 2.5-mile riverside hike through the woods back to where we started.

The program will start and end at McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet, and don’t forget your lunch, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a water bottle and dry socks and shoes for the hike back.
This program is for advanced paddlers and enthusiastic hikers. Traveling this distance requires constant paddling. All equipment is provided, including personal flotation devices.
Both the launch and trail from parking lot are paved. The paddle will be about 3.25 miles long, and the hike will be at least 2.5 miles long on natural surfaces. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention their request when registering or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
