Preserve history

The 114-acre Potawatomi Woods Preserve was acquired in 2000.

The preserve is part of the Hickory Creek preservation system, which conserves more than 2,000 acres.

Natural resources

Potawatomi Woods Preserve protects forest and wetland habitat and a portion of Hickory Creek.

Wildlife found at the preserve includes a variety of woodland birds, such as vireos and warblers.

The preserve is also home to a variety of plant species, including black ash, glade mallow and violet cress.

The site is managed with prescribed burning to protect and enhance its natural resources.
