Preserve history

The 30-acre Lockport Prairie East Preserve was acquired between 1990 and 2008.

The preserve is part of the Des Plaines River preservation system, which conserves more than 2,400 acres.

Natural resources

Lockport Prairie East Preserve protects wetland and prairie habitat.

Wildlife found at the preserve includes hawks and grassland birds.

The preserve is also home to a variety of plant species, including pale leafcup and glade quillwort.

The site is managed with invasive species control, prescribed burning and habitat restoration to protect and enhance its natural resources.
