We are constantly in awe at the amazing and sometimes unusual things we see out in nature, which can come at the most unexpected times.
One of those moments came Thursday, in downtown Chicago, of all places while a man drove his car through the loop. With his window down, a yellow-bellied sapsucker hitched a ride, and luckily, the driver grabbed some video to capture this chance encounter.
The bird — which many people speculated was dazed after hitting a high rise — calmly hangs on as the driver speaks to it.
Equally amazing as the bird hitching a ride was that the man appeared to be traveling at a serious clip, no small feat in the Loop during the week.
"It's gonna get windy," he tells the bird. "You hang on. I'll slow up."
Eventually, the bird takes the easy way out and jumps in the car, resting on the man's shoulders, before this compassionate soul parks his car and walks over to the sidewalk.
"He simply flew away off my jacket into the sky," the undentified man said.
Just a day after being posted online, the video had been viewed more than 17 million times on Facebook and shared more than 430,000 times.
