Bald eagles are incredibly beautiful birds, but they also can be nasty when it comes to food and their nesting territory.
Here's some incredible proof, as captured by photographer Christian Sasse in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
In the slow-motion video, an adult bald eagle grabs a piece of fish, but a juvenile won't have any of it. What unfolds in a matter of seconds is nothing short of amazing.
With the adult's head down and focused on its meal, it didn't see the impending attack until the last possible second.
"The talons of the juvenile barely missed the eyes of the adult," Sasse told National Geographic.
Nils Warnock, the executive director of Audubon Alaska told National Geographic that it's "pretty standard eagle territorial behavior," where eagles defend their feeding spots.
While we haven't seen anything this spectacular locally, we have seen bald eagles fight over food right outside the back door of Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon.
This scene played out in early February.
We've also witnessed times when it's not always a food fight. For example, in October, this pair of bald eagles shared the wealth atop the nesting platforms at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery in Plainfield.
