The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Volunteers Sought for Summer Workdays

Photo for: Volunteers Sought for Summer Workdays

Summer is the perfect time to sign up for the Forest Preserve District's natural resource management volunteer workdays.

Volunteering to help keep Will County’s forest preserves in tiptop shape is a great way to give back, get outside and get some exercise. Volunteers help maintain the preserves by chopping and chipping away the invasive species that can choke out the native plants. Volunteers also tackle brush control, garlic mustard and sweet clover removal, wood chipping and seed collection.

Plenty of volunteer workdays are scheduled each year, so there is ample opportunity to get involved. Workdays are held from 8 a.m. until noon, unless otherwise noted. An RSVP is required so that enough equipment and supplies are available, and a description of the work can be sent to participants. RSVP to Renee at or 815.722.7634. Following the workday, volunteers can stay and learn about the flora and fauna of the preserves as a bonus.

Here is the summer schedule:

  • Tuesday, July 16: Monee Reservoir, Monee Township
  • Sunday, July 21: Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve, Crete Township
