I&M Canal Trail section at Joliet Iron Works to close for ComEd work

A short section of the I&M Canal Trail at Joliet Iron Works Historic Site in Joliet is scheduled to close starting Wednesday, Oct. 4, for a ComEd project.
Signs and barriers will be erected alerting path users to the closure. Trail traffic will be detoured onto the service road briefly via a trail spotter and then back onto the trail. The southern entrance to the Joliet Iron Works paved interpretive path will be closed as a result of this work. But visitors may access the interpretive path via the northern entrance for an out-and-back tour of the steel mill ruins.
ComEd is replacing and upgrading two pole structures at the site. The project is expected to last until the end of the year. The work timeline could change due to weather and other factors. Updates will be posted here as necessary.
Joliet Iron Works Historic Site is located on Columbia Street, east of Route 53/Scott Street.
