Summer is finally here and it's time to start enjoying the great outdoors with some paddling and campfire fun.

To take advantage of the longer days and the warmer temperatures, the Forest Preserve District has organized three "Paddle and Campfire" programs for college students, adults and families at Monee Reservoir in Monee Township.

Each program will feature a tour of the lake by kayak or canoe and games of paddle Frisbee or beach ball on the water. Once the sun begins to fade, the group will head back to the shore for roasted hot dogs and s’mores by a campfire. The programs are:

  • Paddle and Campfire: College Night – 6-9 p.m., Thursday, June 20. Half-price kayak or canoe rentals, $10 per person. For college students ages 18-29.
  • Paddle and Campfire: Adult Night Out – 6-9 p.m., Friday, June 21, $20 per person; ages 21 and older.
  • Paddle and Campfire: Family Night – 4-7 p.m., Sunday, June 23, $20 per person; ages 5 and older.

The paddling programs are recreational and non-instructional. All equipment is provided. Participants should wear clothing that can get wet, including sturdy water shoes. Previous kayak/canoe experience is recommended.

Registration is required two days before each program. Call 708.534.8499.
