The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Event Details

Treat Fido to a fun day outside during the “Hugs for Hounds Easter Egg Hunt,” sponsored by Shorewood HUGS in partnership with the Forest Preserve District. In the spirit of the spring season, let your favorite pooch frolic in search of eggs filled with treats or prizes. The day’s activities also include a special appearance by the Easter bunny, and a raffle for dog-themed Easter baskets. Raffle tickets will be sold on-site at $1 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.

Your pup could also be recognized in the “Hugs for Hounds” contests for the smallest and largest dogs, the best-costumed dog, the dog that traveled the farthest to attend the event, and the dog that looks the most like its owner. Entry fee proceeds will be donated toward the care, handling and training of the Forest Preserve police K-9, Jullo. Shorewood HUGS is a local, nonprofit agency that hosts events and raises funds to make a positive impact in the community.

Event Requirements

Participants also can register the day of the event. Day-of registration begins at 10 a.m.

Dog park permits are not required to participate, but permits will be available for purchase. Rabies tag information (number and expiration date) must be provided and up-to-date, and a driver's license and license plate number are also required to purchase a permit. Those wishing to purchase a permit are encouraged to download a Dog Park Permit Application, fill it out completely, and bring it to the event. Learn more about dog park permits and fees.

Dogs must be leashed and accompanied by owners at all times. A dog park permit is not required to attend this event, but all dogs participating in the Easter egg hunt must be current on all vaccinations.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
