Practice makes perfect. Visit Plum Creek Nature Center and challenge yourself on a self-guided hike to see how many bird species you can find. We provide lists and tips to help you. If you have a smartphone, there are some great apps, Merlin and eBird, that can help expand your knowledge and motivate you to improve your birding skills. We will help you work with the apps and you can practice on the trail.
At the end of the weekend, we will discover who is able to see the most species on one hike. As a bonus, all birds seen and logged will help provide information on the birds that use the preserve. By participating, you will be a Citizen Scientist!
Bring along binoculars and a bird guide, or your smartphone if you have one. Your hike can be as long as you like but it must be completed by 4 p.m. Sunday, September 20, to be a part of the challenge. The prize is just bragging rights and gaining confidence in bird identification.
No registration required.
This self- guided hike will allow participants to choose the duration of their walk. The trail lengths vary from .03 to 3 miles on natural surfaces across uneven terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention their request when registering, or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
