Event details

Join us to celebrate the inclusivity initiatives for visitors with sensory or physical challenges at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center. Explore the new 0.1-mile All-Persons Trail and its five interactive, multisensory display panels. Seven handheld audio units, available for checkout by the half-hour, provide a narrative of the All-Persons Trail for visually or cognitively impaired guests. Participate in a naturalist-led sensory hike and a sensory-friendly craft and engage with local inclusive organizations, including Easterseals Joliet, Special Recreation of Joliet & Channahon, RejuveNate – Plants & Wellness, Joliet Junior College Disability Services, Westside Children’s Therapy, Dynamic Lynks and the Disability Resource Center, for additional resources about what is available in the community.

A limited supply of buddy bags with sensory gadgets and noise-canceling headphones will be available for visitor use. Families will be provided with a social story prior to the program.

Please register for a timed session, which includes a guided sensory hike and a sensory-friendly craft, to help keep crowds to a maximum of 50 per hour. Afterward, visit the community resource area, take a self-guided walk along the All-Persons Trail and explore the new indoor exhibits. Help strengthen our community and have fun discovering what the outdoors has to offer!
