The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Event Details

Join an experienced naturalist to learn basic winter survival skills. Topics will include essential survival gear, survival priorities and, most importantly, how to maintain a good mindset. Learn several crucial survival skills such as fire starting, making a life-saving shelter, finding drinking water and signaling for rescue.

Registration is required by Thursday, February 20: 815.886.1467. 


This program will take place outdoors; please dress for the weather.

The program includes hiking less than 1 mile on preserve trails over uneven terrain. Other outdoor activities may also take place on uneven terrain. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention their request when registering, or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
