Moments of Zen

Watching these videos is a sure-fire way to chill out and bring down the blood pressure

Life can be hectic and we all could benefit from taking a few steps back from the frantic pace of the daily grind just to enjoy the finer things nature has to offer. And really, there's no better time to do it than on National Relaxation Day.

Reducing stress levels can not only make you feel better in the short term, but studies show it may improve your long-term health as well

Luckily for you, we often come across moments of zen while out and about in the preserves and on the trails. Whether it's an incredible scene underwater at Lake Chaminwood, a gaggle of goslings at Lake Renwick Preserve, or a parade of frogs at Centennial Trail, there are always some pleasant surprises courtesy of Mother Nature.

So today, sit back, relax, and take a few minutes to enjoy our top five Moment of Zen videos.

Frogs on parade

One morning in February, a trail user tipped us off that hundreds of northern leopard frogs were on the move at Centennial Trail in Romeoville.

He was right and we were lucky enough to get up close and personal with some of them.

Underwater at Lake Chaminwood

What lurks beneath the surface of this former quarry in Minooka?

Some truly jaw-dropping scenery that looks more like a rich man's aquarium than the bottom of a 120-acre lake.

In the mud at Sugar Creek Preserve

It definitely pays off to walk slowly and keep an eye on where you're stepping. If we didn't, we most likely would have missed this little creature digging in the mud.

Geese, geese and more geese

It's one of the annual signs of spring out at Lake Renwick Preserve.

Another Centennial Trail gem

Well, wood you get a load of this little guy.
