Forest Preserve District of Will County staff can present in-service workshops at your convenience. Consider institute days or morning or after-hour meetings at your school. For university faculty, incorporating a workshop as part of a pre-service teacher course has proven to be successful. Workshops are also a fun and valuable offering at scout council and home school co-op meetings. CPDUs can be explored working with select education partners.

Remove the barriers to incorporating environmental education (EE) into your curriculum. District staff will present the basics of teaching in the outdoors and bringing the outdoors inside. Teachers will receive an overview of what the Forest Preserve District has to offer to support classrooms through programs, facilities, workshops and materials.
Flying WILD Workshops introduce basic bird biology, identification, ecology, bird conservation and service learning. Activities are designed to engage students in real-world learning to understand the importance of migratory birds and their conservation. All participants completing the workshop receive an Educator Training Certificate of Completion, and a Flying WILD activities manual.
Habitats for Schools
Create an outdoor learning space at your school such as a butterfly garden, bird feeding station or natural playscape. Each participant receives a binder of resources including potential funding sources. District staff will visit your school to help plan your site. We will also discuss how to form a team to implement your ideas and get your principal on board. Follow-up visits will assist in seeing the project through to completion.
Project Learning Tree
Project Learning Tree® (PLT) is a program of the American Forest Foundation. It is one of the most widely used environmental education programs. During the workshop, teachers will participate in several hands-on, forest-themed activities that are ready to take to the classroom. Every educator receives a copy of the Project Learning Tree Activity Guide that details 96 interdisciplinary activities.
Resource Loan Kits
Topic-themed kits full of fun and educational materials are available to teachers and home school parents.
