The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Which city carried the nickname “City of Steel and Stone?” Joliet’s once-thriving industrial plant rivaled Pittsburgh’s steel power. Explore the stone foundations that are more than 100 years old. An interpretive naturalist will share the fascinating stories of the men and machines that worked at the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site. Just in time for Halloween, we’ll explore some of the darker sides of working at an industrial plant in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
