Keepataw Preserve Habitat Restoration
Project Name:
Keepataw Preserve Habitat Restoration
Project Location:
The project is located at Keepataw Preserve, between Bluff Road and the Des Plaines River in DuPage Township.
Project Description:
Keepataw Preserve Habitat Restoration consists of invasive brush removal and control, installation of native seed, and prescribed fire in a 9.0-acre section of the preserve.

The goal of this project is to restore upland prairie and savanna on the disturbed invasive sucessional old field/woodland section of Keepataw Preserve. Upon completion of the restoration, the District anticipates that this area will once again support a multitude of native species enhancing the preserve's flora and fauna that the people of Will County can explore and enjoy. Following the restoration, the District will engage in regular natural area management activities, such as prescribed burning and invasive weed control, to promote the health and diversity of the project area.

From April through December 2010, we will be performing the removal of existing invasive brush using a skidster with a brush hog/mulcher. In winter 2010, we will broadcast native seed. From spring 2010 through December 2011, we will perform herbicide application to brush resprouts and prescribed burning.

This $4,050 project is funded by the Forest Preserve District of Will County, and the work is being performed by ASE Illini-Scapes of Romeoville, Illinois.
