Canoeing and kayaking opportunities are available at Monee Reservoir and Whalon Lake. At Monee Reservoir, canoes are rented on a first-come, first-served basis and are available April 1 - October 31. With a rental, life vests, oars, and paddles are included. A $20 late fee will be charged if boats are not returned by 5:00 p.m. in April and September 15 - October 31, or 7:00 p.m. May 1 - September 14. If you have your own canoe or kayak you would like to use in Monee Reservoir, you can obtain a daily launch pass or a seasonal launch pass (valid May 1 - September 30). At Whalon Lake, canoes and kayaks may be launched free of charge. All persons in a canoe/kayak must wear a personal flotation device at all times.
For those wishing to canoe local rivers, we offer access to the DuPage River at Hammel Woods and Riverview Farmstead, and to the Des Plaines River at Isle a la Cache Preserve and McKinley Woods. No launch pass is required.
