Preservation

The 314-acre Romeoville Prairie Nature Preserve was acquired between 1982 and 2003.

The preserve is part of the Des Plaines River preservation system, which conserves more than 2,400 acres of land.

A 155-acre portion of the site was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1984. This dedication provides permanent protection for the natural resources at the preserve.

The preserve is also home to more than 500 plant species, including the pickerel weed and low calamint.
