The 825-acre Plum Valley Ravines was acquired between 1979 and 2003.

The preserve is part of the Plum Creek preservation system, which conserves more than 2,300 acres of land.

Natural Resources

Plum Valley Ravines protects a diversity of habitats, including forest, prairie, wetland, and a portion of Plum Creek.

Wildlife found at the preserve includes a variety of reptiles and birds.

The preserve is also home to more than 500 plant species, including the wood vetch and Christmas fern.

The site is managed with invasive species control, prescribed burning, and habitat enhancement to protect and enhance its natural resources. Learn more about the Districtís land management activities.

Plum Valley Ravines is located south of Steger Road and east of Route 394 in Crete Township.
