The Forked Creek Greenway's 790 acres features Forsythe Woods, whose location in southwestern Will County serves the populations of Braidwood and Wilmington. The first acquisition of this preserve took place in 1974, and continuing land assemblage has proceeded ever since.
Prairie Clover
The first thing you notice upon pulling into Forsythe Woods is the tall grass waving in the breeze. This prairie grass, native to Illinois, stands as tall as five feet in the summertime, and is enhanced by prescribed burns and brush control.

A 1-mile hiking trail leads to Forked Creek, where anglers can dip a line. The trail serves as a cross-country trail when snow covers the ground. Other amenities at Forsythe Woods include a picnic shelter and a large open play field located to the west, in which you can play ball, fly a kite, or even toss a boomerang. Tent camping is also available for youth groups.
