Forked Creek Greenway

Lockport Prairie by Sarah StephensThe three-mile, 795-acre Forked Creek Greenway begins at the Wauponsee Glacial Trail on Route 102 in Ritchie and protects the majority of Forked Creek downstream of Wilmington. The Forsythe Woods access area on Kahler Road at the northern end of the Greenway was acquired in 1974, and continuing land assemblage has proceeded ever since.

In 2010, a small parking area was developed along the roadside of Butcher Lane south of Forsythe Woods to provide access to a natural hill for sledding. This project was completed in conjunction with the City of Wilmington. This new sledding area will not be supervised nor monitored for snow conditions. (Please note that sledding is not permitted in Forsythe Woods due to the proximity of the creek.)

A Land Use Plan for the Greenway was completed in 2010, with Master Planning to come. A potential trail from the Forsythe Woods Access to the Butcher Lane Access and a future access area at Ballou Road will be evaluated.
