Wauponsee Glacial Trail
Horse Riders on Wauponsee Glacial Trail
Named after an ancient glacial lake, the Wauponsee Glacial Trail is 22.25 miles in length. A 2.75-mile section of the trail is comprised of asphalt and runs from the Sugar Creek Administration Center on Laraway Road in Joliet north to Rowell Avenue.

The 19.5-mile southern section, which also begins at the Administration Center, is surfaced with crushed limestone and skirts the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. This multi-use southern section is available for horseback riding, and the Administration Center provides ample parking for horse trailers and vehicles. The trail ends with a 600-foot bridge that spans the Kankakee River and provides a spectacular view.

The primary access for the Wauponsee Glacial Trail is the Sugar Creek Administration Center. Other access locations providing limited parking are on Manhattan Road in Manhattan, and on Commercial Street in Symerton.
