The McKinley Woods Habitat Restoration project continued restoration activities within a 107-acre area of McKinley Woods
in Channahon to restore prairie, savanna, and woodland on the retired agricultural fields, ravines, and bluffs located within the preserve.
Initial restoration activities, including invasive species control, trash removal, and native seed installation, were completed in 2009 and 2010. To allow the initial plantings to flourish, continued invasive species control, prescribed burn management, and enrichment seeding were conducted during 2013.
The initial project was funded in part by a grant from the Northeast Illinois Wetlands Conservation Account.
