Monee Reservoir features a 46-acre lake providing fishing and boating opportunities. Free shoreline fishing is available, or rowboats can be rented from the concessions building. Canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, and trolling motors are also available for rental, or you can purchase a one-day or season launch pass to use your own canoe or kayak. Boats are rented April 1 through October 31.

The concessions building, open daily except Mondays, offers bait, fishing licenses, and snacks for sale. A fishing license is required for anyone at least 16 years of age who fishes a public Illinois waterway. Additionally, horseshoes, ladder ball equipment, baggo games, and fishing poles can be rented.

Minnows must be purchased from the concessions building. The use of live crayfish is prohibited. Only line fishing is allowed. Anglers may use a maximum of two poles, with no more than two hooks or lures attached to each. Ice fishing, swimming, wading, and dogs in the water are prohibited. All statewide fishing regulations apply. For details, contact the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, channel catfish, and crappie. Taking frogs, turtles, and mussels is prohibited. Catch and Release fishing is encouraged, but daily limits are enforced.

Monee Reservoir's fishing report is updated daily, except Mondays, during the fishing season, which begins April 1 and ends October 31. The "Weekly Fishing Information" and "Catch of the Week" data is updated weekly. Visit often for the most recent catch information, or call 708.534.8499.

Current Conditions

Last Updated: 12/10/2011 at 7:25 AM
Lake Temperature: 50 Degrees
Water Clarity: 52 Inches
Wind Speed: 9.5 MPH from the South-Southwest
Air Temperature: 38 Degrees
Bait Type: Bass and Crappie minnows, night crawlers, jumbo red worms, little red worms, wax worms, dough bait, and stink bait.
Weekly Fishing Information: As of 10/25: The concessions building is open for bait sales and watercraft rentals Tuesday through Sunday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The concessions building is closed on Monday each week. The Preserve is open seven days a week.

Redear and Bluegill are being caught by boating anglers with a jumbo red worm on a bobber three to four feet deep. If you are fishing from a boat, try the east shore along the train tracks. If you are fishing from the shore, try the riprap shoreline around the pier and along the sidewalk by the seawall of the inner bay.

Black Crappie have been caught this past week using Crappie minnows and a slip bobber, or jigs. The bite slows down once the sun rises past the tree line. The best days for the Crappie bite seem to have overcast and breezy conditions.

Largemouth Bass are being caught with a variety of crankbaits and plastics. Crayfish (brown/orange/gray) and Bluegill (blue/white/yellow) colors have worked best for the crankbaits, and Junebug, blue/black, and copper colors have worked best for plastic worms. Some anglers are fishing the plastics Texas-style in the deeper holes and channels. Bass have been caught in open water around deep structure. The vegetation is almost completely gone from the shoreline, allowing anglers to land fish without difficulty. The early morning and late evening bite is best with a little wind and cloud cover.

The Channel Catfish bite has picked up. Anglers have been successful in catching Catfish in the two- to four-pound range. The bait of choice has been a jumbo red worm, Bass minnow, or night crawler fished on the bottom.

No report on the Northern Pike.

During the past week, the low temperatures have been in the mid-30s to mid-40s with high temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-60s. The water clarity is very good during this time of the year. The water temperature has fallen into the lower 50s. The fall bite has arrived, and we are receiving reports from many happy anglers.
