On June 12 and 13, 2010, join the Forest Preserve District of Will County in celebrating our 27th Annual Island Rendezvous at
Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville. From 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. both days, experience life in the 18th century with French voyageurs, Natives, colonists, and soldiers from this period of American history.
Three hundred years ago, French voyageurs canoed past this very island on the Des Plaines River to trade for furs with Native Americans. Rendezvous was a time for voyageurs to celebrate the end of the trading season.
Live music, storytelling, and falconry demonstrations are just a few of the activities that will amaze and entertain the modern-day guests at this event.
Children can enjoy making crafts, playing games, and participating in a fur trade scavenger hunt.
Vendors, entertainers, and reenactors will be on hand to immerse visitors in the lifestyles of the French and Native Americans who lived here 300 years ago. Guests can cheer on their favorite reenactors as they compete with tomahawk, musket, canoe, flint, and steel, and - yes! - even flying frying pans.
