April's windy weather is the perfect time to go fly a kite at the Forest Preserve District of Will County's "Jammin' Family Kite Fly Festival."
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 29, at Plum Creek Nature Center,
27064 S. Dutton Road, Beecher.
The fest will feature synchronized kite dancing, 80-foot flying kites and candy falling from the sky, all set to music. Members of the Illinois Kite Enthusiasts group will be on hand to highlight the excitement of kite flying.
Bring your own kite or purchase one from a vendor. Food also will be available for purchase from a local Boy Scout troop.
After you have fun outdoors, go inside the nature center to experience a kite display and create a wind sock craft you can take home. A master falconer will be inside presenting a live falcon demonstration and providing information about falconry, hawks and raptor tracking.
The nature center also features a bird and butterfly sanctuary, resident reptiles and Spotís Nature Playground, an outdoor playscape.
Free jump ropes will be given to the first 75 children in attendance.
Registration is not required for this free, all-ages event.Photo by Glenn P. Knoblock
